A Central Park Re-Newell…

Genius idea.

Tavern On the Green, located in Central Park, is presenting a Broadway series in their charming outdoor patio.

Tuesday night we attended the Alex Newell show.

What a lovely evening.

The venue is an easy commute from home, the humidity dissipated and the atmosphere was inviting.

Alex Newell is known for his role as Unique Adams on the musical hit series, Glee and Mo on the musically innovative TV show, Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist.

Newell also starred as Asaka in the Broadway revival of Once On This Island.

Newell is gay and identifies as gender non-conforming.

The show’s playlist was inspired by his life experiences.

Newell’s banter was humorous, his voice humongous and the band proved to be an excellent accompaniment.

The setting is divine and the food surprisingly good…the servers were delightful, unobtrusive and ordering food and drinks is optional.

We arrived around 7 for the 8pm show and had drinks in the Tavern On the Green historic bar area.

Ticket purchases are only available online through TodayTix and are priced according to the performance.

Alex’s tickets averaged $89 for the 60 minute show…the enthusiastic audience was hungry for more.

Amber Iman, Newell’s pal and a talent in her own right, joined Newell for several duets and 3 solo numbers.

If you enjoy Broadway tunes and fabulous singers these entertaining shows are for you…and it’s a perfect summer evening activity.

The series will run throughout the summer and possibly into the fall.
