The long 4th of July weekend was a perfect time for a staycation.
With hot, humid, rainy weather across the country and well over 2 million people a day trudging through TSA at the country’s airports, this past weekend I stayed in New York City and only had to battle some heavy traffic on the Merritt Parkway in Connecticut.
Friday we had a great pre-theater meal at Jupiter at Rockefeller Center and then spent a hilarious, thought provoking evening at the theater with Alex Edelman in his one man show, Just For Us…this is must see theater.
Saturday dawned bright and a road trip to Connecticut beckoned.
I visited with my parents on the anniversary of the passing of Queen E. I was so glad I went as I always feel closer to them in their woodsy resting place.
A delightful lunch was spent on the water in Rowayton devouring a loaded lobster roll.
We casually did a drive by at Volvo in Stamford and purchased a new car which stunted all of us.
A stop at Trader Joe’s, a must do when driving through Connecticut and home to change for a fabulous dinner at Stretch Pizza.
We even found a parking spot literally in front of the restaurant.
Sunday was spent exercising and binge watching Drops of God. If you have an interest in wine wrapped around a slick family saga watch the 8 episode series on Apple+.
Dinner was a tantalizing experience at the fabulous produce-driven Oxalis in Brooklyn…what a treat.
Monday was official museum perusing day with stops at the MET and the Guggenheim.
The Young Picasso exhibit at the Guggenheim was dreamy, showcasing a huge Impressionism influence on the 19 year-old artist during his Parisian sojourn.
Though Picasso spoke little French, he absorbed everything Paris had to offer over his initial two-month stay in 1900 and, subsequently, during his return the following May through the end of 1901.
Take a mini tour:
The 4th lacked an outdoor celebration what with the thunder, lightning, hideous humidity and torrential rain statements.
Today brings us abruptly back to reality…hope your holiday weekend was absolutely fabulous🎆
