Thursday night in Paris.
The city was quiet except in the Marais.
Grazie, the local Italian restaurant, was packed. The wait was one hour.
We were departing early for Bordeaux and it was already 9:15pm.
My ever efficient daughter frantically started scrolling Trip Advisor and Paris Yelp.
We conferred about a restaurant…okay lets go for it even though this was our night to forsake fixed priced menus with multiple courses.
Courtny jumped on her Uber App and within minutes a Mercedes rolled up on Avenue Bon Marche.
The restaurant said we had to be seated by 9:30 so the pressure was on to meet the challenge.
We zoomed around the Bastille and presto we were in front of the attractive glass entrance to Table.
Little did we know that this last minute decision would result in dining in one of the best restaurants we have ever eaten in.
The hostess whisked us to the zinc bar. We had front row center seats to watch the chef and owner, Bruno Verjus, make his magic.
With entrepreneur, food writer, blogger and chef Bruno Vergus in the kitchen as well as financial backing for decor and product sourcing from the man that founded L’Occitane, Table is set for perfection.
Every item on the menu is farm to table, purchased in limited amounts so everything is always exceptionally fresh.
The meal started on an organic note. The wine bouquet quite different yet smooth. As it opened up, the wine became more tantalizing. I could become an organic wine fan.
What a way to start the meal…lovely wine and amazing freshly baked country bread.
Courtny and I opted for a la carte, ordering the divine Foie Gras Des Landes with feves de cacao (cocoa bean) and sea salt from Millac scattered about that only enhanced the flavor of the foie gras (19 Euros).
The Coquilles St. Jacque Cru (scallops) with black truffles were unbelievably fresh and delectable (19 Euros).
Our main course of Sole De L’Ile d’Yeu (island off the coast of western France) was literally the most amazing fish I have ever tasted…I kid you not (49 Euros).
(Please note that I usually describe all elements in detail, but, alas, I did not completely comprehend all the french translations of the multitude of ingredients…c’est dommage.)
David opted for the fixed price meal and immediately the appealing, sculpted dishes began gliding across his place setting (69 Euros).
David started with a delicious beet…awesome presentation.
This was followed by the scallop with fresh black truffles.
A carpaccio of fish adorned with caviar was remarkably refreshing.
His white flaky fish was amazing.
The side of fresh vegetables were so tantalizingly wonderful that this dish could coax me into the vegan world.
The cheese course was remarkable accompanied by a lovely wine from the Loire Valley (Petit Cheese Assortment 18 Euros, Wine 7 Euros).
The chocolate mousse was spectacular.
Closing out Table, we proceeded to have a lovely chat with the effusive, enchanting Bruno while the prep area was cleaned and readied for another day of delighting diners.
Verjus presented us with a parting gift of his new children’s cookbook, Recettes pour mes enfants, as well as some of his divine homemade bread in case we got hungry on the Uber drive home.
Table is small and intimate, but the flavors are big and bold and the food incredible.
When in Paris, Table is a must…you will thank me!
