Save The Girls…

breast cancer awareness

It’s October…that means Halloween and speaking of a treat…no trick…go treat yourself to a mammogram during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Now that I am over 40 (one “hot” momma) I do my due diligence and have my annual mammogram. Yesterday was the day. My fabulous, supportive daughter rose at 6:30am to accompany me to Columbia Doctors Midtown.

We walked across Central Park and I made promises that I was hoping to keep. Namely, if I earn a passing grade, breakfast and retail therapy are on me.

8am and we wait…today was only 20 minutes. The women who work in radiology are fabulous. It is such a kind, encouraging environment.

I went into THE room, had a boob shmear and had naked photos taken. Then I waited out the results in my Frette robe (only in Manhattan) with several other anxious women. We chatted, but tensions ran high.

My name was called…I felt as if I was back in school. Darn, will I have to go to the principal’s office?

I approached tentatively and she handed me my report card. Call in the marching band…I got a passing grade.

I am happy to report that my tatas are renewed for another titillating year.

We hightailed it to breakfast and shared an egg white omelet and did some damage on 5th Avenue before the day really started.

Remember to support the girls in more ways than one.

  3. Hi Toby, good for you and thank you for writing on breast cancer awareness month! I lost someone close to me from breast cancer so I’m VERY glad to see women taking time to get screened…very sweet of your daughter to be supportive too. Just wanted to update you that I went to Toro this weekend as you recommended and it was so amazing!! Moving on to the next one on the list you sent me…

    • Always love your feedback. So sorry to hear of your loss. So many women are still afraid to have mammograms.
So glad you enjoyed Toro. The NYC branch just opened. Hope all is well with you…keep posting!
      Best,
      Toby
