Bulletin: it’s all about pizza in New York City.

We recently biked downtown to the lower east side, riding crosstown almost to the Manhattan Bridge.

We landed at  Speedy Romeo, an edgy little spot nestled into the middle of Clinton Street.

Small in size, but big in taste.

The wood-fired pizzas and Italian fare are showcased in the open kitchen.

The owners combined two separate restaurants around a marble horse-shoe bar.

We settled in on a beautiful Sunday morning and immediately knew we had to experience the brunch special.

Gravlax Pizza

The Gravlax pizza with fennel-cured salmon, ricotta cheese, topped with red onions, capers, and lemon ($20) was fabulous and the crust crispy and slightly charred straight from the wood burning ovens just steps away.

The Speedy Romeo Caesar with romaine, anchovy and lemon was crunchy and delicious ($14).

Loved the benches that were polished to a fine sheen and retrieved from a Czech Republic cinema.

We chatted with Elliott Armstrong, sous chef, who is a San Francisco native.

Heading the two enterprises is co-owner and chef Justin Bazdarich who spent nine years as a chef in the Jean-Georges Vongerichten empire.

Owner Todd Feldman’s background is in television and film.

The restaurant is named after the Feldman family racehorse.

We followed up the pizza with the American Beauty, a sweet pizza consisting of a tantalizing mix of fresh berries, ricotta cheese and that wonderful crust ($20).

Speedy Romeo has a creative cocktail menu along with craft beer and wine and divine CounterCulture coffee ($4).

Our server, John, was a delight.

Speedy Romeo, whose original restaurant is located in Brooklyn, is a relaxed, fun spot to hang and the food is first rate.

Race on over  to Speedy Romeo. It’s a winner.

It looks as if another expansion is imminent so there will be more space to enjoy the Speedy Romeo fare.
